Multibuild provided construction and fit out services for this £6.2 million flagship Primary Care Centre in Todmorden, West Yorkshire for their client LSP Developments. Built over a 10-month period, the 4,000 m2 building includes a steel and glass atrium containing a feature staircase, and balconies with glass balustrades. It houses 10 consulting rooms, a dental surgery, a pharmacy and various reception areas, plus physiotherapy and minor surgery suites and a large multi-purpose room. The centre was built on reinforced ground beams and piled foundations. A void was created below the building to collect rainwater run-off from the site and discharge it into the adjacent canal. Metal decking and in-situ concrete floors were added to a 3-storey steel frame which was clad with rendered block work and reconstituted stone. This allowed the building to meet planning requirements and blend with the local environment. A single-ply roofing system enabled the creation of the unusual roof design. Multibuild also completed various landscaping works which were another planning permission requirement. With the exception of the pharmacy Multibuild fitted out all the internal rooms, which were completed to HTM 63 and HTM 71 standards. The inclusion of such features as solar panels, which generate electricity and heat, allows the building to deliver a high degree of thermal performance in-line with NHS requirements.
